I gave in to the riding mower. Partly because the mowing duties has gotten away from me this week, but also because some of the areas around our 6+ acre project have gotten away from me for weeks+.
And it's hot.
And for me, COTC goes back to school this week. And summer...well, you've lost that lovin' feeling.
So we really need to tackle the front field to keep deep mulching to cover the entire area so that we can cover crop. And that need is within just a small handful of weeks away. Urgency with the mowing was becoming a record high pressure this week.
Now the mower on hand at the greenhouse was donated and free, so that's great. The self-propelling mechanism is broken, however, so it's a workout to run it. Much of the time, I'm still more comfortable with it vs. a riding mower though; I just call it a workout and skip intentional exercise that day. But for the area I needed to cover today, it would have taken 10 hours. 2 weeks ago I did push-mow for an entire day and I could not mow the entire area in over 8 hours. I really needed as much as possible done the end of the weekend, so I gave in. Scott brought his riding mower down and taught me how to use it.
Of course, the whole time he's explaining gears, blade engagement, etc., what my brain hears is "Here's this thing you hate (running a loud combustion engine to hang out in nature, in peak hot summer no less), now let's combine that with this thing you're really bad at (driving)."
I did it though.
Rural living and it's love of fossil fuels scores 1.
